Unfortunately, on August 3rd, 2018, we lost our friend and law partner, Kirk Horn.

Kirk graduated from Hanover College in 1985.  He then graduated from the Indiana University Law School in Indianapolis in 1990. In 1990, Kirk was admitted to the Indiana bar.  Kirk worked for many years with the Indianapolis firm Stephenson, Morow & Semler through 2001. Then in 2002, Kirk became a principal partner in the firm Mandel Pollack & Horn.  In 2009, the firm changed its name to Mandel Horn, P.C. where Kirk worked as a partner from 2009 until his illness. Kirk’s primary areas of practice included civil litigation where he handled complex insurance coverage matters, as well as defending municipalities and police officers.

In 2017, Kirk was deservingly recognized as an Indiana Super Lawyer.  Kirk was a one of a kind law partner and friend.  His current law partners Derek Mandel and Joshua Rauch learned so much from Kirk both as a lawyer and as a salt of the earth friend.  Kirk was well known within the Indiana legal community not only for being an excellent attorney, but also for his great sense of humor, and sharp wit.  When local lawyers eventually learned of Kirk’s health struggles, many reached out to us to express their love and admiration for Kirk.  There is no doubt that Kirk was an excellent lawyer…..but, more importantly, Kirk was a hardworking, well respected, and well-loved person, friend, and law partner. Josh and Derek will greatly miss the almost daily lunches with Kirk, where we would laugh, share life experiences, and talk about each other’s families.

Kirk will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Rita and his children, Sam, Jack and Caroline.
